Julie Richoz / Nicholas Le Moinge

As part of the dialogue between cultures and the Swiss Design Mexico program of the Swiss Embassy in Mexico, Nouvel Studio began working with Swiss designers Julie Richoz and Nicolas Le Moigne this year. This project reintroduces the confluence of two countries, which is what originally led to the creation of Nouvel Studio, bringing together the mastery of Mexican hands and the personality of the Helvetic identity.

This collaboration resulted in objects guided by experimentation in both color (Julie Richoz) as well as form (Nicolas Le Moigne). The interpenetration is melded into eclectic pieces that will be shown next year for the first time during World Design Capital Mexico 2018.

Under the category of funding for projects that represent exchanges between countries, our work was supported by the Fundación Pro Helvetia and the Swiss Embassy in Mexico.

Julie Richoz / Nicholas Le Moinge

Exhibit by Andrés Mier y Terán

The work of architect and designer Andrés Mier y Terán, Bajo la Mira. La Revolución de la No Violencia (Targeted—The Revolution of Non-Violence), intervenes in a metaphorical proposal sponsored by the program for cultural promotion REvoluciónArte. The exhibit, composed of a thousand glass bullets and a thousand glass rifles, was created for the Monument to the Mexican Revolution and is conveyed to the spectator through 15 installations that narrate occurrences and moments of the armed struggle while also interacting with the century-old structure.

The rifles have no triggers, which is an invitation to contemplation. The unexploded shells are suspended in their purest state, posing a game of fragility and solidity translated by works such as Trincheras (Trenches), composed of 7 pieces: Formación I y II (Training I and II), Traición (Betrayal), Enfrentamiento (Confrontation), Emboscada (Ambush), Bala Perdida (Stray Bullet), Fusilamiento (Execution) and Persecución (Pursuit).

The exhibit is also a collaboration of design and industry, since the pieces were produced by NOUVEL STUDIO, part of GRUPO PAVISA, Mexican companies that bring together vanguard technology and the fine artisanal work of blown glass.

We have started collaborating with the Swiss designers Julie Richoz y Nicolas Le Moinge
. During their first visit to Nouvel Studio we were able to exchange points of view and we got to know our mutual work from a close angle. This first collaboration is the beginning of a challenging cultural exchange with Switzerland thanks to the support of the Swiss foundation for the Culture and the Swiss Embassy in Mexico, we are confident that the challenges that will rise from this exercise will result in interesting glass concepts that will add to our extended collection.

Our Participation in NY NOW

We participated in NY NOW from August 20th to the 23th; this is one of the most important events related to the world of home objects and lifestyle. The Javits Center in New York presents proposals that give strength to this important commercial activity where design, besides gaining ground, has a special place. During our participation at this summer edition in Accent on Design section we presented Vilma bowl designed by Emiliano Godoy that adds to the Pedro and Pablo family and stands out for its big size and original production process. Another novelty were artist Edgar Orlaineta new Katsinas Omaw and Nata´aska, introduced in four different color shades and two more portable sizes.
